system to reflect the new and emerging demands for individuals that can contribute to and participate in the knowledge-based economy of the future.  Not only does the needed reform to the educational system dictate the incorporation of information and communication technologies throughout the educational enterprise, it also requires a fundamental shift in the current approach to learning if the system is to succeed in preparing the “knowledge workers” of the future.Jordan has an incredible opportunity and challenge ahead to prepare the required human resources to ensure the success of Jordan as the IT hub for the region.  Seen as positive contributing factors, the following attributes of Jordan have been identified: 

Þ    Strong vision, leadership and commitment by HM King Abdullah II.

Þ    Strong commitment by the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as evidenced by recent actions and decisions to incorporate information and communications technologies into the daily lives of Jordanians.

Þ    The relatively small population size of Jordan – allowing Jordan to respond quickly to new developments and requirements.

Þ    The young population of Jordan – eager to take up the challenges presented by the new technologies.

Þ    A strong academic and educational history – witnessed by the pool of available intellectual resources and the high literacy rate.

Þ    Expressions of interest and active support from a wide range of donors, including donor countries, private sector and non-governmental agencies.

A willing, dynamic and engaged private sector eager to work in partnership with the government to realize the vision for the future.
