With
the ascension of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the throne of
the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the stage was set for the
development of a new vision for the much needed economic
development of the country. Significant initiatives have been undertaken to focus the
energy and attention of the nation’s leaders and citizens to
determining the best solution for the long-term success of the
country’s economy. The
results of the first National Economic Forum in November 1999
(Dead Sea Retreat), Jordan VISION 2020 and the R.E.A.C.H.
initiatives are evidence of the dedication and commitment that
has been given to the charting of a new economic future for
Jordan. As a strategic decision, the development of the information
technology sector was selected as having the most promise for
contributing positively to Jordan’s future success.
The vision of HM King Abdullah II that “Jordan will
become an IT hub for the region” has been a rallying call to
government ministries and agencies, private sector
associations and companies, non-governmental bodies and
individuals within the society to pull together to realize His
Majesty’s vision for the future benefit of all citizens.Critical to the ability of Jordan to realize
it’s vision of becoming an information technology capable
country, is the preparation of the country’s key advantage
– its human resources.
Identified clearly, concisely and in key foundation
documents, including Jordan VISION 2020 and the R.E.A.C.H.
initiative reports, immediate and significant investments must
be made to reform the current education
